Letterpress printing by Laura Baisden at Camp Nevernice
Design by John Fabke
Paper from French Paper Co. in Niles, MI
We made a video about the poster that's pretty fun: www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSk3zpt6tKU
John Fabke's design was inspired by turn of the century sheet music and 19th century broadsides, then manufactured into a magnesium plate and letterpress printed on an antique proofing press by Laura Baisden. On the plate, the black lines are raised so that they are pressed into the paper with each impression. Standard frame size.
Regarding the notation, the publisher strove to find the common ground between historical practice and modern sensibilities. The notation is meant to be an aid to the player, but not a “transcription”: rather, it is a visual representation of the compositions from the perspective of the instrument notated, with a little help in that regard, i.e. bowings, dynamics, ornaments &c. will need to be supplemented by the player.
